• 88 Rating: Robert Parker "The 2013 Gewürztraminer Reserve "Treleaven" comes in with four grams per liter of residual sugar--it shows dry--and 13.9% alcohol. This has a richer and fruitier feel to it than the regular bottling reviewed this issue. It has no more character, though, but it still retains the classic aromatics of the grape and drinks beautifully, with a lingering finish laced with touches of pepper. Winemaker Lindsay Stevens differentiated the two for me: "The regular Treleaven Gewürztraminer grapes were purchased from vineyards on Seneca Lake. The grapes for the Reserve Gewürztraminer are from our estate vineyard, from 23-year-old vines. The vines are planted on gravely loam on a western facing slope in the middle of a large block of vines, on the eastern side of Cayuga lake. The soil is relatively well drained and the vines are fairly low producing at this point...about one ton to the acre fairly consistently." This does have an uptick in concentration over the regular bottling, but not perhaps as much as expected. Mostly, its lusher feel makes it easy to drink and rather friendly, while still projecting the characteristic Gewürz nuances. Overall, it is a lovely Gewürz that will be hard to dislike. There were 117 cases produced." [tasted on 3/2016] • 87 Rating: Wine Enthusiast "Luscious peach and floral notes contrast dusty, earthy mineral tones in this unusually composed Gewürztraminer. The palate is mouth filling and expansive, but peachy fresh flavors add levity. It’s a bold, full bodied wine but surprisingly balanced through the finish. Drink now." [A.I. tasting on 12/31/2015]
