2023 Dry Vidal Blanc * New Release*
In the ongoing pursuit of innovation, we introduce the Dry Vidal. While Vidal is renowned for producing ice wines and sweeter varieties, we believed that if fully ripened and harvested late in the season, it could yield an intriguing dry wine.
The 2023 Dry Vidal presents a delightful aromatic bouquet, complemented by a palate rich in stone fruit and peach characteristics. Its flavor is both intense and bold, bursting with richness that nearly reaches overwhelming heights.
Winemakers Notes:
- Made entirely from our estate grown Vidal, this is the last varietal picked during our harvest season to develop as much flavor and ripeness as possible.
- Only three dry styles of Vidal are produced in the Finger Lakes, a very uncommon and unusual take on the varietal.
Vintage Notes:
Bud-break arrived earlier than usual in 2023, raising concerns about potential frost damage, which ultimately occurred on the chilly night of May 15th. The impact was widespread in the Finger Lakes Region, with most growers losing approximately 30% of their crops. This marked the second consecutive year of a notably small vintage. As harvest approached, the early fruit was exceptional. However, later varieties turned into a balancing act of picking between rainfall and allowing the fruit to ripen before harvesting again. Each site faced the frost differently, resulting in unique picking experiences across the board. The 2023 Vidal produced an impressively small crop that ripened beautifully, boasting remarkably high sugar levels.
