2023 Reserve Chardonnay
TASTING NOTES: The 2023 Reserve Chardonnay highlights the influence of extended barrel aging, offering captivating aromas of butter and pastry. In contrast to the richer oak characteristics, the palate is unexpectedly light and delicate, unveiling subtle notes of apple and lilac. This wine is already wonderfully supple and smooth, providing a truly enjoyable experience.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Aged for more than 15 months in barrels, including approximately 20% new oak, to enhance mouthfeel and flavor.
- Native fermentation along with malolactic conversion enables this wine to showcase its unique character and that of our Estate Vineyard on Cayuga Lake.
- Each year, we select grapes from the vineyard block known for producing the finest Chardonnay of the season.
VINTAGE NOTES:
Chardonnay possesses the unfortunate trait of being highly adaptable. Unlike its companion, Pinot Noir, it serves as a winemaker's grape. Chardonnay can transform into a variety of styles, ranging from sparkling wine to an intense expression of oak and smoke, and everything in between. This grape requires a winemaker to have a clear vision and purpose; otherwise, it risks becoming just another forgettable white wine in the market. The 2023 harvest came early this vintage and fruit was glorious, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir had some of their best showings in years.
